Cell Phone Policy
Savannah Arts Academy assumes no responsibility for theft, loss, or damage of an electronic device brought to school.
Students bring these devices at their own risk.
Instructional Areas (classrooms, gymnasium, auditorium, computer labs, etc.):
- The use of cell phones for any voice or text communication is not permitted during instructional time unless specifically instructed by the teacher at that time that the cell phone may be utilized for learning i.e. research, Google Classroom, dictionary, voting, etc.
- Students are required to place their cell phone in the cell phone holder in all classrooms upon entering the classroom. Cell phones must be turned off or put on silent during instructional time. Students will retrieve cell phones during the last 2 minutes of each block daily.
- Any use of cell phone during testing is prohibited. A zero shall be assigned to a student observed using a cell phone during testing and the cell phone shall be confiscated by the teacher or administrator.
Non-Instructional Areas
- Students are permitted to use their cell phone before and after school, between classes, and during lunch; however, students are not authorized to use headphones with their cell phones at ANY time on school campus.
- Cell phones are not to be used by students in the hallways, restrooms, nurse’s office, Student Services, etc. when classes are in session. When the bell rings to begin class, all cell phones shall be turned off or on silent.
Other:
- Students are NEVER permitted to record or take photos without permission.
- Cell phones are NEVER permitted to be charged in the building.
- CELL PHONES IN THE LIBRARY: In the library, cell phones must be turned off and be out of sight at ALL times. This includes before/after school, during class time and lunch. This also includes while leaving the library until the device is outside the library door, and entering the library once the device is inside the library door. In other words: AT NO TIME are cell phones to be on or visible in the library.
Headphones and Earbuds:
- At NO time during the school day are students permitted to use Headphones or Earbuds.
- Earphones or earbuds are NOT allowed to be used for Instructional or Non-Instructional Time in the building unless supplied by the supervising teacher during Instructional Time.
Note: The term cell phone in this context includes any electronic signaling device smaller than a laptop computer.
Contents of cell phones may be reviewed and searched if there exists a reasonable suspicion that it may have been used in an activity prohibited by the Code of Conduct.
