"This is a calling, not just a profession.": 2026 Medical Explorers Graduation

Stephanie Campbell: When I see you guys sitting here with this kind of opportunity, I cannot help but be amazed.

Keyshia Harley: We got to learn things like CPR.

Tynece Gary: How to give someone anesthesia.

Keyshia Harley:  We got to learn how to insert IVs.

Tynece Gary:  EKGs.

Keyshia Harley:  Blood pressure.

Announcer: Kourtlyn Ulmer.

Kourtlyn Ulmer: Well, my favorite thing I've done so far is we went to Georgia Southern in the radiology department, and we learned about X-rays. Ultrasounds and stuff like that. And I want to become a pediatric ultrasound tech. So that was really interesting.

Dr. J. David Baxter: What you've experienced is the first step in that training to becoming trustworthy healthcare providers. Many of you may become doctors, nurses, technicians.

Ken Slats: It's an important partnership that our school system has with Mercer School of Medicine, Memorial Health Medical Center and the anchor of the program, the Coastal Council of Scouting America.

Tynece Gary:  This program is like was more hands on than I thought it was going to be. You seen people, actual students that go to the school don't show us what they learned, especially on mentors. They know a lot of things and like have a little knowledge. But they were also learning with us.

Announcer: Miss Keyshia Harley.

Keyshia Harley: You get to be with a wonderful group of people, wonderful, wonderful mentors. It's a lot of hands on experience and stuff that you get to learn is really eye opening to see. You know, it's like your first step into the medical field.

Dr. Angie Lewis: As Savannah Chatham County Public School System students, you should be proud of representing your schools with excellence and determination. We encourage you to carry forward the confidence, knowledge and sense of purpose you have gained here as you continue your academic journey and work toward becoming the next generation of health care professionals.

Dr. Tim Connelly: And this is a calling, not just a profession. It's a way of life. I was glad that I had time this go around to spend some time doing some clinical scenarios and ultrasound. And that's just a such a tip of the iceberg that you guys have experienced. I really wish we could show you more.

Stephanie Campbell: What you do have now is something very important, the belief that you belong in spaces that you may have never even imagined before, and now they'll be a little less intimidating.
