Savannah Arts Academy
Theatre 2026 Audition Requirements
Audition Overview
Thank you for your interest in attending Savannah Arts Academy (SAA) as a Theatre Major. This information will help you prepare for the audition process. Please read carefully. Questions should be directed to David Poole, Theatre Department Chair, at David.Poole@sccpss.com.
Part 1: Performance
Students must prepare and perform two contrasting monologues, each lasting 45 seconds (total time: 90 seconds). One monologue should be from a Shakespeare play (Recommended: ESU Shakespeare Competition Packet: https://www.esuus.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2026-ESU-NSC-Monologue-Packet.pdf). The second monologue should be a contemporary piece from a published stage play. No other material is permitted. Students will introduce their material, including their name, the playwrights’ names, and the full titles of both plays before performing. After the performance, students should be prepared to answer questions about the plays and cuttings.
Part 2: Redirect
A redirect will be given by one of the judges. Students are expected to apply the new information to their performance. This may involve a second full, partial, or targeted performance. A redirect is a suggestion to perform the piece with an alternative focus, which may include changes in movement or interpretation. Students should demonstrate understanding, flexibility, and willingness to perform with direction.
Part 3: Written
Students may bring a resume to the audition (optional). If provided, only one copy is necessary.
Extra Pointers
- Carefully read each part of the audition process above, as the completion of each part will affect your score.
