Orchestra 2026 Audition Requirements
Audition Overview
The Orchestra audition consists of Three Parts. Part 1 is your performance of scales, an etude, and a solo piece. Part 2 is sight reading. Part 3 includes written guidelines and reminders. Please dress appropriately for your audition. Material can be found at the GMEA website: www.gmea.org. Candidates must bring their own instrument and music.
Part 1: Performance
Candidates will perform the following:
● Two different 2- or 3-Octave Scales + Arpeggios of the student’s choice.
● One etude for their instrument such as the GMEA 2025-2026 Middle School All-State Etude for their instrument.
● Solo piece of student’s choice (2-3 minutes) graded on difficulty and musicianship (does not need to be memorized).
Part 2: Sight Reading
Students will be given a sight-reading exercise to perform during the audition.
Part 3: Written
● Candidates must bring their own instrument and music.
● All students will be adjudicated based on the materials indicated above.
