Film Studies 2026 Audition Requirements
Audition Overview
The Film Studies audition consists of two main parts and a submission requirement. Part 1 is an interview based on your creative process and technical knowledge. Part 2 is the creation and submission of an original short film. Please read all instructions carefully, as each part will affect your score.
Part 1: Interview
Candidates will answer four questions about their film project and creative process. Possible topics include:
- Inspiration behind your story
- Equipment and software used for shooting and editing
- Steps taken to complete the project
Each question is worth 5 points for a total of 20 points.
Part 2: Short Film
Candidates must create and submit an original live-action short film that:
- Runs between 2–3 minutes
- Includes moving images, sync audio, music, titles, and credits
- Follows a three-act structure: setup, conflict, resolution
Conveys one theme from the following list:
- The Path Less Traveled
- Under Pressure
- Individual vs. Society
- Turning Lemons into Lemonade
- Fighting for Justice
- Lost and Found
Technical Requirements:
- Proper sound mixing and balanced audio levels
- Rolling credits must list all music, equipment, software, and contributors
- No picture slide shows will be accepted

Part 3: Submission Requirements
Upload your film to the link provided in the audition email.
File name format: LastName_FirstName_TitleOfFilm.mp4
Late submissions will not be scored under any circumstance.
Extra Pointers
Carefully review all requirements. Your short film must be entirely your own work. Any work deemed not original will be disqualified. If you have questions, consult your teacher or contact SAA for clarification.

Join current SAA filmakers foran interactive workshop and Q&A session focusing on how to mke a short film using basic tools.
Topics Include:
Storyboarding/planning
Camera composition with phones/iPads
Sound
Lighting & Exposure
Basic editing technique and free software
Bring any storyboards or planning sheets you may have created (it is okay if you don't have this).
Bring your audition films rough cut, if you have them, on a drive or device.
