Dance 2026 Audition Requirements


Audition Overview
Candidates auditioning for the Dance Department will complete multiple components including group combinations, a solo performance, and submission of required documents. Students will be evaluated on artistry, technique, and performance quality. Please read all requirements carefully and dress appropriately for your audition.


Part 1: Performance
Each candidate will perform movement combinations in small and large groups in Ballet, Pointe, and Modern dance under the instruction of the dance faculty. Combinations include Ballet: barre, center, and across the floor; Modern: center warm-up, across the floor, and a center combination.
Solo Performance:
Candidates will then perform a 1-minute Ballet or Modern solo. The solo should include at least two turns and two jumps and can be performed with or without music. Any music selections should be instrumental and provided on a CD or mp3 player (phone with aux cord).


Part 2: Audition Attire
The Ballet portion will be done in ballet flats. All female auditionees will be required to dance en pointe for a portion of the audition and barefoot for the modern section.

  • Females – Black leotard (any style), pink or flesh convertible tights, ballet flats, pointe shoes (if pointe work ready), no warm-ups.
  • Males – White t-shirt with black convertible tights, ballet slippers, no warm-ups.


Part 3: Written Requirements

  • Dance Resume using the Solo Information and Resume Sheet provided.
  • Dance Solo Info including the style of dance performed, music, and choreographer.
  • Permission to photograph/video auditions for documentation using the Solo Information and Resume Sheet provided.
  • Sports Physical: A clear physical report from a physician is required to audition. Dancers without a proper physical will not be allowed to audition.

*Note: If accepted into the program, a new sports physical must be submitted AFTER May for the following calendar year.


Extra Pointers

  • Carefully read each part of the audition process above, as the completion of each part will affect your score.
  • Dress appropriately for a performance audition.
  • Ensure music is instrumental and ready for playback.
  • Break-a-leg!
